Fourteen Hills Claws Its Way to Oakland's Beast Crawl


Saturday, July 6 heralds the East Bay’s second annual Beast Crawl, and yours truly will be roaring with the best of them at 8 p.m. at Telegraph Oakland Beer Garden and Cafe. Hundreds are expected to crowd the pubs, restaurants, and galleries of Oakland to celebrate writers reading from their own work. Check the schedule right here and mark your map. Fourteen Hills will be presenting an incredible showcase of its very own home-grown talent: former staff writer Sarah Broderick, current Fiction Editor Juliana Delgado, poet Ivan Hobson (published in Fourteen Hills 18.2), former co-Editors-in-Chief Miah Jeffra and Chad Koch, former Poetry Editor Diana Rosinus, and Fourteen Hills Event Coordinator Jason Schenheit. Sarah Broderick is the recipient of a Phi Beta Kappa, Northern California Association fellowship for 2013. She is an MFA candidate in fiction at San Francisco State University.

Juliana Delgado, a Colombian writer, has various publications and her stories have been performed at Action Fiction! Juliana runs a Queer! Spanglish! zine, Plastic Panties, with her partner, is Fiction Editor at Fourteen Hills, and writes for SF Weekly.

Ivan Hobson earned an M.F.A. from San Francisco State University. He is also a fourth generation machinist. His poetry has recently appeared, or is forthcoming in publications including The North American Review, The Fourth River, South Dakota Review, and California Quarterly.

Miah Jeffra's work appears in Fifth Wednesday, Educe, Edge, and A Cappella Zoo, among others. He is Chair of Humanities at the Art Institute of California, and Artistic Director of culture jamming collective ShadowLab.

Chad Koch received the 2010 Miriam Ylvisaker Fellowship. His first published story won the Leo Litwak Short Story award. He was most recently Editor-in-Chief of Fourteen Hills.

Diana Rosinus, recipient of the Myna Brunton Hughes Award, holds an M.A. in Creative Writing from San Francisco State University, where she served as Poetry Editor of Fourteen Hills. Her poetry has appeared in Poecology, Floodwall, and Foundling Review.

Jason Schenheit is a founder and editor for thegorillapress.com, an online and print zine machine. He is the Event Coordinator for Fourteen Hills, and co-curates a reading series called the Grinder.

Beast Crawl is an electric festival of writers and their words; the worlds that they conjure; the places to which they take us; the questions they pose and let fly to the wind.
